Walter and Betsy Eskett used to run the Atlas Public House in Twerton. Dose anyone one know of the Atlas and where it was located?. Wally was a long distant runner who won quite a few trophies for his efforts.

    From Swift and Elliot (2005) The Lost Pubs of Bath, page 129:

    On the corner of Fielding’s Place was the Atlas Stores, which opened around 1880. When an inventory was carried out in 1906, it had a smoke room with a mahogany window screen, mahogany-topped drinking tables and a pannelled partition, a bar with front and side counters, a private glass room, and a jug & bottle. The outside of the building was lit by gas. Even though it had been renamed the Atlas Brewery by this time, it does not seem to have had its own brewery. The Atlas Brewery closed on 6 December 1962 and has, like the house Fielding stayed in, been demolished.

    @Joe
    Thankyou Joe for that info, what a pity there is no photo of The Atlas Brewery.

    At least I now know where it was .
    Thanks again
    Eleanor.
