My great great grandfather Joseph Witts was born in Twerton in abt. 1814. I am looking for details of his birth/Christening, and would appreciate any help with my search.
He was a weaver who was married in 1838 in Wootton-Under-Edge, Glos where he later became a merchant and corn factor and died there in 1902. His father was John Witts.

I was interested to see this photo. Jane, the wife of the Rev. Charles Nutt was a Mackenzie relative of my husband. At the time of the 1851 census both her mother & sister were staying with the Nutts. Perhaps they'd come to see the new Rectory & help with the move to East Harptree! Their Mackenzie forbear had gone from Ross-shire on the Darien Expedition & landed in Jamaica. A very extensive family, several relations lived in the Bath & Bristol area.

I am trying to trace the Phippen family from Twerton. My 2xgt Grandmother was Sarah Phippen (born in approx. 1826 in Twerton). On her marriage certificate to Joseph Beaven it states that her father is Henry Phippen. Any information would be much appreciated, thanks.

The small shop on the left of the picture was owned by Mrs. brooks whose husband owned and ran the only taxi in the village. On the right is frank Crooks newsagent shop.Quite a character was Frank.@Dave Mann
