Women into WorkThis 18-week course is designed specifically for women retraining for the workplace and introduces students to a range of skills which will be useful whether entering employment, returning to study, or setting up in business.  Groups are small and friendly - maximum of 10 students and we aim to help you gain confidence in yourself prior to returning to work.

What qualifications will I gain?

  • OCR Text Production Basic
  • OCR Word Processing Basic
  • OCR Entry Level Certificate in Using ICT
  • An Adult Literacy qualification
  • An Adult Numeracy qualification

You can:

  • Learn how to touch type, or brush up existing typing skills
  • Learn basic word processing techniques
  • Learn modern layouts for basic business documents - letters, memos, articles and reports
  • Brush up your literacy skills
  • Brush up your numeracy skills
  • Use the Internet to search for career information and job opportunities
  • Learn how to use email
  • Produce an up-to-date and effective CV
  • Learn how to write covering letters and complete application forms
  • Improve your interview technique and boost your self-confidence
  • Meet with a careers advisor
  • Meet with a business startup advisor
  • Investigate volunteering opportunities which may be of use to you
Women into Work

Assessments

The OCR Text and Word Processing exams are taken at the end of the course.

OCR Entry Level IT assignments take place throughout the course.

Literacy and Numeracy tests are taken at the end of the course.

Do I need to provide any equipment of materials?

Workbooks, handouts, and disks will be provided.  A pen, dictionary and ring binder to keep your work in would be very useful.

Moving on

You could progress into employment if you wish, or move on to further study, possibly an ITQ at Twerton Learning Centre.  All students will be given an end of course moving on tutorial.

Course Fees

If you are on a recognised means tested benefit and there is funding available, the course could be free.

Exams fees

Exam fees are payable if you do not attend an exam.
