Dear Resident

This is second of our regular email newsletter in which we hope to keep you informed of what is going on in Twerton & on the Council.

Twerton PACT

Over 70 local residents attended the first Twerton PACT (Partnerships and Communities Together) meeting held at St. Michael's Junior School.

PACT meetings are about giving local residents access, influence, action and answers to problems and issues in the community.

A Panel of David Goucher (chair head teacher of St. Michael's Junior School) Cllrs Gerry Curran and Tim Ball, Dan Foster and Andy Isles (Somer Housing) and PC Brendan Keegan took questions and suggestions from the floor. Before a discussion took place around Youth Provision, Alley gating, Somer Building security, Police response times, Fear of crime and the Visibility of beat officers and PCSOs.

Cllr Gerry Curran said: “The meeting fleshed out many issues that we need to resolve and we will be working with the Police and other agencies including local residents to sort these out”.

Gerry Curran also being Vice Chair of Avon Fire Brigade said that he would get the Fire Brigade to attend the next meeting.

Councillor Tim Ball said: “The meeting was very constructive and a greater understanding of the problems that was occurring was gained by all”.

At the end of the meeting a vote was taken as to which residents thought were the three most important issues that they wished to see actioned and reported back to the next meeting and these were in order of preference, Fear of Crime, Youth Provision and Somer Building Security.

A PACT meeting for the whole of the Whiteway estate will take place in April.

Do you know your Neighbours?

Twerton Councillors Tim Ball & Gerry Curran are holding regular meeting for Staff at the Bath Foyer in order to foster better understanding about what the Foyer is doing and its relationship with the community.

There is a lot of misunderstanding of what the Foyer does and we are encouraging them to communicate more with the community with local newsletters about what they are doing and their purpose.

Many young people are in the Foyer through no fault of their own and need help to be able to settle in as they often come with just the clothes that they stand in and little else.

The Foyer is always in need of Pots and Pans & Crockery including knifes & forks to help these young people. Some kind people have recently donated several push bikes that enables them to look for jobs or go to college.

If you have any of these items that you can spare for a young person then please contact Donna Plumb 405004 at Bath Foyer and we know that she will be pleased to hear from you, but please do not offer electrical goods as the law says they can not accept them.

Please help if you can.

Police news

Burglaries continue to be a concern in the area and therefore the Police are putting a lot of effort into supporting Southdown/Whiteway. High visibility patrols will continue in the Whiteway area, including evening patrols. Other efforts are being made and the Police are working closely with Councillors, the youth, highways and waste departments of the Council and other agencies such as Somer.

Neighbourhood Watch

Local Councillors from Southdown and Twerton have approached the Police with a view to setting up more Neighbourhood Watch Schemes in our area. We are particularly keen to make these more community focused. If you are interested in setting up or being part of a new scheme please get in contact with us and we will help set up the meetings and work to get such schemes started.
