SOUTHSIDE FOOD CO-OP
SFC provides fresh locally grown food to people in Southdown, Twerton and Whiteway. The food comes from Batheaston and is delivered to the Timebanks office in Twerton High Street on Wednesday mornings. We divide it into bags and deliver it the same day. The idea is to reduce food miles and to get people eating fresh food at low prices.
Catering CourseWe are running a catering course aimed at people who are looking for work. It will run on Monday mornings, 10am – 1pm, for 8 weeks from January 21st until March 17th. It doesn’t run in the half term break, so there will not be a class on 18th Feb. The course is based around a small project providing healthy lunch boxes for staff at Culverhay School. The first week is a general introduction and basic cooking and in the second week you receive Food Hygiene training, including sitting an exam to get the Food Hygiene Certificate. Our aim is to help you get skills to find work. We can offer help with preparing a cv, applying for work and general help to overcome obstacles you face in finding work.
Volunteering at the food co-opThere are several opportunities to volunteer at the Food Co-op. Volunteering can give you invaluable experience when you are applying for jobs. Employers like to see that you have been doing something constructive when you are unemployed and we can help you to improve your skills. We need people to help with publicity, sort vegetables into bags on a Wednesday, help with the accounts, help with admin and we need drivers with a car to deliver vegetable bags. Buying from the food co-opWe sell large, medium and small bags of lovely fresh vegetables. Prices are £5.50, £4 and £3.50 to have vegetables delivered in the Twerton and Whiteway area. There is a 50p reduction in price if you collect your bag from the Timebanks office on Twerton High Street. Please contact Cordelia on 787912 (Mondays) or 442814 (Wednesdays)
